The 2011 Cafe Banquet

On Tuesday, December 6, 2011 The Community Cafe celebrated its inaugural Cafe Banquet at Smith-Cotton High School.  The evening began with a wonderful meal prepared by The Community Cafe Board.   After dinner, the Cafe's founder, Kristen Allcorn, returned from Mizzou to speak about her efforts in the Sedalia community and the importance of continuing the Cafe mission.  Art Hartt, one of the original student leaders, was also on hand to speak about what the Cafe meant to him.  The evening continued with the recognition of the 2011-2012 student leaders--Executive Director Amanda Owens, Vice Executive Director Mercedes Kuhns, Chase Johnson, Kourtlyn Henderson, Garrett Garrison, Jacob Paxton, Lucas Kurz, Jessica Crouch, and Stephanie Boggs.  Then a representative from the Pettis County Democratic Women, a Cafe volunteer organization, spoke about why they volunteer at the Cafe.  Finally, Mrs. Salome Taylor was presented with the Community Cafe Service Award.  Mrs. Taylor can be found almost every evening welcoming patrons to the Cafe and putting a smile on everyone's face.

The evening was a great success.  Not only did we recognize all of those who contribute to the Cafe and celebrate the over 90,000 meals served since 2007, but we also recruited 18 perspective student leaders to ensure the Cafe's continued presence in our community.  Our young people have done an amazing thing--truly a miracle--and we hope that God continues to bless our community through them.

A special thanks as well goes out to Leisa Gero, Joy Dickinson, Carrie Howieson, and all who made the evening possible.
